Had the day off, and thought I'd do something with the 3+ pounds of sour cherries I bought this weekend. I started pitting them by using a chopstick, but after the first few, I caved in and bought a cherry pitter for Sur La Table. It made the task much quicker.


















Because I've fairly obsessive compulsive, I decided to make the traditional lattice-top double crust. Besides, the pastry wheel (a pinking shears version of a mini pizza cutter, if that makes any sense) was only 3 bucks. The crust of course, is handmade as well.






Actually, weaving the lattice is a hell of a lot easier than it looks. I don't know why anyone would bother with those chintzy lattice cutout things. I did fuck up on the middle horizontal strip, but I didn't realize it until too late. I do need to work on a better crimp at the edges, although they usually get broken off and nibbled on by little mice once the pie is out of the oven!



Mmmm.... my trainer is going to kill me!
