What is the What, by Dave Eggers. Whatever you think of AHWOSG (which I happened to love) this "novelized autobiography" or "fictionalized memoir" or whatever you want to call it is a departure for Eggers. Eschewing his self-referential cleverness, Eggers just simply tells the story of Valentino Achak Deng, a Sudanese refugee. Although I've only gotten half, one of the paragraphs is already haunting me. "We have forgotten the friends we have known from the north, the interdependent and peaceful lives we once lived with them. This war has made racists of too many of them and too many of us, and it is the leadership in Khartoum that has stoked this fire, that has brought to the surface, and in some cases created from whole cloth, new hatreds that have bred unprecedented acts of brutality."

eka pada bakasana in yoga. I can do most of the arm balances, but this one used to confound me. I've discovered it's really a matter of straightening the arms, tipping the head forward and spreading the shoulderblades. Oh yeah, and massive ab work. Next up:
Mayurasana.
